About Steve Daniels

I am a photographer living in St. Petersburg, Florida, which is on the west (Gulf of Mexico) side of the state.

I began my photography in 1972 as a school newspaper photographer in Michigan, quickly advancing to a local newspaper, and to a press agency news and sports photographer. I moved to Florida in 1978 and became a commercial studio and freelance sports photographer, specializing in Major League baseball and auto racing.

In 1997 I got a real job (the photography market here was flooded with people who undercut the market prices and put many good photographers out of business) and started work as a computer multimedia developer, using my photography, Photoshop, and design skills to develop computer, healthcare, and fitness certification courses in a number of courseware development programs. I have worked in multimedia design for companies in the Computer Training field, a Medical School, and most recently, as a Curriculum Developer for a leading company in the fitness industry.

Due to the downturn in the economy, my last position was eliminated, and the job market is very grim. I am now working as a freelance training, presentation, and graphic design consultant, which also allows more time for my photography.

Living about 1/4 of a mile from the beach, I don't get there as often as I should. This area of the state, along with much of coastal Florida, is lined with barrier islands with a narrow (1/4 to 1/2 mile wide) intercoastal waterway. This provides shelter for many types of water birds, making Florida perfect for wildlife photography. I spend much of my time photographing these birds. There are plenty of them in my back yard, but I have a number of State and County parks close at hand that offer a diversity of backgrounds and animals.

Other than photography for work, I currently photograph images for fine art prints for myself and others who appreciate the Florida landscape and wildlife. I experiment in Photoshop with my digital images, and use larger formats for photorealistic images.
